Our Service:
The Heart Of Jesus Portuguese Philharmonic Society of Calgary – offers to the community an environment for all ages to:
Learn music
Beginner and intermediate level players attend classroom instruction, two hours per week. This is offered to the player who has none to some music experience.
Following this session players join the more seasoned players in a rehearsal session.
Rehearse
All players come together two hours per week in a concert environment to practice playing together. This provides an enriched learning environment for the beginner player as he/she plays along side the more seasoned player. These sessions are also useful in preparation for public performances.
Perform
All players participate in public concert band or marching band performances.
These performances at times may require day travel to nearby center such as Edmonton. Travel is usually by transport bus at no cost to the player.
In addition to the music experience, players enjoy an environment that promotes:
Multiculturalism
Players experience various aspects of Portuguese music and the Portuguese culture/community in Calgary and surrounding area.
Christian values
Players are encouraged to behave in such manner that reflects the respect for themselves, others and their surroundings.
Membership in the band is open to all members of the community, regardless of age. At no cost.
Membership in the society is open to all adult members of the community at a cost of $50.00 per year.
